The Dragon Ball series changed the anime term in the world, it westernized the medium of anime and more people came in to accept it. In a way, Akira Toriyama spread the word around the world, that even anime can be considered one of the top mediums of entertainment! Toriyama is the creator of “Dragon Ball”, he wrote this story after being inspired by the son Wukong’s tale. The manga started its serialization in 1984, since then 3 series such as Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and multiple movies and video games were created in the name of the Dragon Ball Franchise.
The best one in this series was “Dragon Ball Z”, it was much longer than the original dragon ball and gave us amazing characters and turned a whole generation into weebs. 10. Krillin
Krillin is the first friend Goku made in his life, they both met at Master Roshi’s island when they enrolled to train with him. At first, when you see Krillin he wasn’t that fond of Goku, but eventually, they became best friends. Krillin is a character who doesn’t have a nose, some say it’s too tiny and might be there. He has 6 dots on his forehead for some reason and Toriyama doesn’t want to clear that out either, he was one of the strongest in dragon ball. Krillin’s destructive disc is a lethal attack, which can cut through any living thing, he can also perform a Kamehameha.
But in Dragon Ball Z he was left behind as many powerful characters showed up during the sagas, Krillin wasn’t powerful enough to stand in front of them and had to be protected by Goku. In the Namek Arc, Krillin is killed by Frieza, and that’s what unlocked Goku transforming into the legendary Super Saiyan!
9. Cell
The Cell Saga gave us many amazing characters and unlocked the powers of many Z Warriors, in a way cell made sure everyone reached their peak before they battled him. Cell was a menacing, stoic demeanor villain who thought about nothing but the destruction of humans, he was one intimidating character who also managed to nerve out someone like Vegeta!
The strength and power he had were unmatched by even Goku & Vegeta during the Cell Arc, the cell games were definitely something that hyped up the Dragon Ball Z series even more and that’s why he makes it to our Top 10 Popular Characters in Dragon Ball Z list.
In his perfect form he was playing around with strong fighters from Earth, he was only defeated when the Hybrid Saiyan “Son Gohan” Unlocked his super Saiyan 2 form and defeated him. Even after that, he wasn’t dead, so Goku had to use Instant Transmission and teleported with him to King Kai’s planet and died with him in the process.
8. Master Roshi
Master Roshi is the pervy, strong and again the perviest character in Dragon Ball Z, he is Jiraiya to Goku’s Naruto. All he cares about is something we can’t talk about here, but being the teacher of Goku & Krillin, you can imagine the power he holds. In a show full of fights Roshi is comedic relief, he has always been a fan favorite for Dragon Ball Z fans.
If not for Master Roshi, Son Goku wouldn’t be using his signature “Kamehameha” move, as Roshi is the one who taught him that technique. He might be lurking around beaches to stare at girls in bikinis, but when it comes to protecting his people, he never backs down!
7. Trunks
So, we are talking about Future Trunks here, as the baby trunks couldn’t contribute anything to the series, other than his cute hat and cuteness. The Z fans would never forget the moment Trunks showed up in the show, it was poetic how he arrived and sliced down Frieza who visited the earth to destroy the planet! The Z warriors stared at Trunks as he transformed into a Super Saiyan, Vegeta was jealous of this mysterious person.
But little did he know that he was his own Son, an offspring of him and Bulma. Trunks played a huge role and had many transformations in the Cell Saga. Fans loved a new Saiyan warrior who could also turn into a Super Saiyan, so he deserves a place in our list of Top 10 Popular Characters in Dragon Ball Z.
6. Kid Buu
Kid Buu was considered the strongest & most troublesome villain, he was like a piece of gum who could turn powerful warriors into candies and gulp them down! He almost seemed unbeatable as the punches and the attacks are thrown at him did nothing but tickled him, even Frieza was warned by his father to not mess with Majin Buu.
But we should be grateful to Kid Buu, as because of his strength we got to see Goku & Vegeta merge with each other! The Buu Saga gave us Vegito, the character who toyed with Buu and was the only one besides Mystic Gohan who troubled him.

5. Piccolo
The Namekian has been there since the start of Dragon Ball, he was originally an enemy to Son Goku. But they worked together to defeat Raditz and save the earth, this led to him taking care of Gohan and training him. We got a beautiful relationship, somewhat like a father-son duo with Piccolo & Gohan.
Piccolo played a huge role in the Namek Saga, as the Namekians allowed the Z Warriors on their planet when they knew they were with Piccolo. Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon is one strong attack! Being one of the important characters in the series, he makes it to the Top 10 Popular Characters in Dragon Ball Z.
4. Gohan
Gohan was shown as a little baby at the start of Dragon Ball Z, but we could see glimpses of him becoming a powerful warrior when he even attacked Raditz. He’s the son of Goku, he has to be strong as hell! Son Gohan was the first Hybrid Saiyan, his master was Piccolo who trained him to become a warrior. The effect he had on him was second to nothing, he even wore a costume like his master.
In the Namek, Saga Gohan contributed well in defeating a few characters, but in the Cell Saga was where he transformed into a dangerous person who defeated Cell! He refused to use Super Saiyan as his only transformation, and worked on a new one called “Mystic Gohan”. Son Gohan is definitely one of the Top 10 Popular Characters in Dragon Ball Z.

Despite the Dragon Ball Z series being stuffed with numerous villains, we think it’s safe to say that Frieza is the main one. No one had a huge impact on the series more than Frieza, he was the one who destroyed “Planet Vegeta” and killed all the Saiyans. He is rude, manipulative, merciless and everything bad! Frieza is just the perfect villain who cares about nothing other than the joy of ruling and killing.
The Frieza Saga and the final battle between Goku & Frieza is one of the best episodes in anime, it changed the anime community forever. It’s because of Frieza that we got to witness the birth of the Super Saiyan, even after being spared by Goku he has kept coming back in the Dragon Ball series.
2. Vegeta
Vegeta can be called as the “Second main character” of the Dragon Ball Z series, he first appeared on earth with Nappa and came up with the idea of destroying the earth. Eventually, everything turned out well, and thanks to Bulma & Goku he became one of the Z Warriors and formed a family on earth. Although we think that ‘Goku’ was the reason he actually stayed back, so they can spar and train from time to time.
Vegeta is the perfect image of Hard work & Perseverance!
