Despite being blind since childbirth Gyomei Himejima is the strongest Hashira in the demon slayer corp, he has learnt to sharpen his other senses which help him to eradicate demons. There’s a joke in the fandom that the real reason Gyomei is always crying is because he feels bad for what he is going to do to his enemies, he has the title of the Stone Hashira and known as the Strongest Hashira in the lot. Despite being blind he can sense his opponent’s movements, and it never affected him as a disability. He is 7.2 and despite looking so calm he is a menace when he battles his opponents, he never wanted to become a demon slayer just like Tanjiro. Gyomei was an orphan who lived with other kids in a Buddhist Temple, one day a demon came and killed many kids but Gyomei survived this attack.
He made a vow to become strong and end the demons, he tackled the Demon despite having no experience in anything whatsoever. Gyomei was himself shocked by the strength he possessed when he attacked the demon, he was later recruited by Kagaya Ubuyashiki himself because of his strength and motivation to end demons. As said by Tengen Uzui, Gyomei became a Hashira by just training for two months! He activated his Demon Slayer Mark, which increased his strength, speed, stamina and battle abilities to a higher scale. During the final battle with Kokushibo, he stated that in the last 300 years no one had made him struggle as much as Gyomei did. After they sliced down Upper Moon 1, Gyomei ran to help other Hashira’s fighting Muzan and cornered him with the immense skill of Kusarigama!
Personality & Appearance
Gyomei has a different personality than the other Hashiras, you can see him covered in tears with folded hands chanting Shin Buddhism Chants. Despite his intimidating stature, he is a very soft spoken and respectful protector in the demon slayer corp. He is someone who likes to play with cats and help the young buds with their trainings, he believes that the demons are the evil of this world and he will do anything to eradicate them from the face of the planet. Gyomei cries over little things like watching an animal suffer from pain, but he is also someone who is trusted as a leader between the Hashira. Kagaya Ubuyashiki made Gyomei give out orders to the Hashira, as he trusts his leadership skills.
Gyomei is the tallest Hashira in the group, he has a strong muscular body with which he can break boulders. He has only the white sclera part in his eyes, as he was blind since his childbirth due to bad fever, he keeps black spikey hair with an undercut. Gyomei has a scar running across his forehead, he likes to wear Beads given to him by his Monk Teacher.
Abilities
Gyomei Himejima was gifted this monstrous strength since his childhood, when the demon attacked an orphanage he lived in he had to step up. He attacked the demon and killed it with his bare hands, gyomei is still disgusted of the memory of him killing someone with just his fists. He was so strong that it took him only two months of training to become a Hashira, Kagaya Ubuyashiki was most impressed by his abilities despite being blind. Due to his blindness his other senses were sharpened by years of training, his hearing ability is so good that he was able to hear Muzan shifting organs during the battle.
Kokushibo who fought Gyomei said that he had never seen a warrior like him in the last 300 years of him being a demon, and that his ability to move so fast and attack despite being blind is something which is impressive. Gyomei can activate the transparent world where he can track the movements of his opponents before they make a move, he was also naturally born with the immense strength he possesses.
Battle Techniques
He is considered to be the strongest Demon Slayer, as his combatatant skills and reflexes are unmatched when he is in the mood. Unlike the other Hashiras who use swords, gyomei uses two scythes connected by a chain also known as “Kusarigama”, he uses Kusarigamajutsu during the fights to attack demons. Gyomei has mastered the craft of using the Kusarigama in the most efficient and dangerous way, his moves troubled Kokushibo during their fight.
Gyomei activated his demon slayer mark during the battle with Kokushibo, which looked like cracked earth surface on both of his arms and it enhanced his strength, agility and speed massively. He went on to kill Kokushibo with the help of the Mist and Wind Hashira, gyomei managed to sway off Muzans long scythes using his Kusarigama and stop him. Gyomei cultivated the Stone Breathin technique himself, this was so strong that he landed equal blows on the Demon King during the final battle. He is able to perform Five forms of Stone Breathing, where every single form is deadly! But the fifth form is where Gyomei turns into a serious monster who just aims to kill, the move is him swinging the scythes at unrealistic speed and it is confirmed to hit the target!

- According to the Sound Hashira, Gyomei Himejima was one of the two people who became a Hashira only two months after picking up a sword, the other one is the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito.
- Gyomei Loves Cats, which is something common he shares with Love Hashira
- Gyomei is the only known Hashira who doesn’t or has never used a Nichirin Sword, he’s equipped with two chained axes.
- Gyomei got blind due to a fever in his childhood, that’s the reason you don’t see pupils in his eyes.
- The Chant Gyomei keeps saying “Namu Amida Butsu” is a chant from Shin Buddhism, it translates to “I entrust myself to the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life”.
