Rent-a-Girlfriend started as one of the best and most exciting manga series, the fans were loving the plot and the story which was taken from real life. So, if you were not familiar with this, let us tell you that in Japan renting a girlfriend is a common thing, males in Japan have a very boring life because of their office jobs and that’s why they don’t have time to even form a relationship. The author of the manga is Reiji Miyajima, he created this manga which created a huge fandom, but after some time reiji started wavering away from the plot of the story.
The fans were bored as the story was going in some other way, and they started complaining as normally otakus do. Reiji was facing a huge backlash from the fans, but he did something which made it even worse and the fans thought maybe the author has lost his mind because of overworking. Mangakas have to deliver weekly chapters to the publishing companies, and most of them only sleep for 2 hours and eat very little. It was normal for Reiji to lose his mind, but let us tell you the reason fans thought that the author was going crazy!
Miyajima was illustrating pictures of the lead female character Chizuru in some real-life locations, like his bed, coffee shops, and also his shower. He went on to quote the shower picture “This girl is my beautiful girlfriend and her name is Chizuru Mizuhara. She is very kind and she always forgives me in the end, even if she gets really mad at me afterward” The fans called him a delusional person who was living a fantasy that wasn’t possible at all, it’s like he was in love with the art he was creating but in a creepy way because Reiji Miyajima is married and has kids!
When a figurine company announced that they will be making a life-size figure of Chizuru Mizuhara, this is when the author went into creep mode and passed some weird comments. He went on to tweet that he was delighted with the announcement of the real-life figure of his favorite girl and he also advised them to make the clothes removable, so he can change them on his own. The fans were appalled by these fantasies the author was creating, and they thought he was purposely doing this to create controversy! The fandom of Ren-a-Girlfriend wanted good chapters but they knew the author wasn’t focused and the plot was good as dead. What do you make out of this obsession of the author with his own character?
