“El Trapo Negro” is a fine art nude photograph from 1986. The composition centres on the human figure.

About fine art nude photography

Fine art nude photography has a long tradition, from early 20th-century pictorialists to modern masters of light. A fine art photograph is composed, printed and displayed with the same care as a painting. The original dates from 1986. Many celebrated photographers printed their own work in the darkroom, treating each print as a finished artwork. Fine art nude photography treats the human figure as form, light and shadow. Photographers such as Edward Weston and Ruth Bernhard treated the nude with the formal care of sculpture.

Styling this fine art nude photograph

Its focus on the human figure makes this fine art nude photograph a quietly striking choice. “El Trapo Negro” becomes a statement piece at 24×36″, while 11×14″ or 12×18″ fits shelves, desks and gallery walls. Finish “El Trapo Negro” with a slim black frame with a wide white mat for a clean, gallery-style look. Build a gallery wall around “El Trapo Negro”: add two or three smaller prints that echo its colours and keep the gaps to 2–3 inches. Hang “El Trapo Negro” with its centre about 57 inches (145 cm) from the floor, or 8–10 inches above furniture.
