Churning grey-green swells crash against the hull of U-96 as it cuts through the Atlantic, illuminated by the hellish glow of burning ships on the horizon. This poster captures the terrifying scale of submarine warfare, juxtaposing the cold, mechanical precision of the vessel with the chaotic fire of a surface battle.

About Das Boot

Das Boot (1981), directed by Wolfgang Petersen, is a celebrated submarine war film. War film posters often focus on scale, sacrifice and a single powerful image. International editions of film posters often use completely different artwork from the US release. Poster art lets a film live on the wall long after the credits roll.

Styling this Das Boot poster

Red and green tones give this Das Boot poster a moody character that holds a room. The tall format of “Das Boot Dramatic” suits narrow walls, hallways and the space beside a doorway; 18×24″ is a versatile middle size. The red and green palette of “Das Boot Dramatic” stands out against warm neutrals and charcoal; finish it with a simple black or oak frame. For a gallery wall, pair “Das Boot Dramatic” with two or three smaller prints, spaced 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) apart.
