Product description
A heavy, brooding silence hangs over the canvas, where two figures stand at the threshold of the abyss. This print captures Edgar Degas’s 1858 interpretation of the literary giants, draped in flowing cloaks of deep crimson and muted olive. The composition is swallowed by a profound, inky darkness that defines the rocky cavern, leaving only the textured brushwork of the figures to suggest their solemn journey ahead.
About Edgar Degas
Degas is best known for ballet dancers, painted rehearsing and resting as often as performing. He worked in pastel, oil and sculpture, and often used unusual, cropped viewpoints inspired by photography. The Impressionists held their first independent exhibition in Paris in 1874.
