Ming the Merciless looms over the galaxy with a gaze that demands total submission in this vibrant interpretation of a cult classic. The composition captures the high-energy camp of the 1980 film, utilizing a fiery red and gold palette for the Emperor’s robes that contrasts sharply with the deep blues of space.

About 1980s film posters

Painters such as Drew Struzan and John Alvin created many of the decade’s most famous posters. Science fiction posters often show what the film promises: other worlds, new technology and a sense of wonder. The original dates from 1980. From Metropolis to modern blockbusters, sci-fi posters have tracked how each era imagined the future.

Styling this 1980s movie poster

With its red, blue and gold palette and vibrant atmosphere, this 1980s movie poster brings instant personality to a wall. Choose 24×36″ to make “Flash Gordon” the focal point above a console, or 11×14″ to 16×20″ for a bedside or hallway wall. Finish “Flash Gordon” with a simple black or oak frame: its red, blue and gold palette stands out against warm neutrals and charcoal.
