About James Dean

James Dean (1931–1955) became a symbol of youthful rebellion after Rebel Without a Cause. Studio portrait photographers of Hollywood’s golden age used dramatic lighting to create the glamour of the stars. Many celebrated photographers printed their own work in the darkroom, treating each print as a finished artwork. Fine art photography is made to be displayed and contemplated, like a painting. Fine art photography values the photographer’s vision as much as the subject in front of the lens. A fine art photograph is composed, printed and displayed with the same care as a painting.
