Virginian Opossum Audubon Wildlife Illustration Art Print

As North America’s only marsupial, these creatures possess a specialized prehensile tail and a remarkably unique physiology. This print captures a male and female in a dynamic composition, their coarse gray fur rendered with meticulous scientific precision. The animals are perched atop a textured wooden branch, reaching for soft orange persimmons that contrast against the monochromatic tones of their bodies.

About John James Audubon

John James Audubon (1785–1851) set out to paint every bird species of North America. His Birds of America was published between 1827 and 1838, with life-size engraved plates coloured by hand. Natural history illustration combined careful observation with artistry long before photography.
