Product description

Rising from the quiet waters of the Geum River, the legendary cliffs of Puyo stand draped in lush greenery under a late summer sky. This print captures the serene majesty of the historic site, where a single pavilion rests atop the stone precipice. Kawase Hasui’s signature use of color translates through the soft lavender hues of the clouds and the rhythmic ripples surrounding the traditional sailboat in the foreground.

About Kawase Hasui

Kawase Hasui (1883–1957) was a leading artist of shin-hanga, the 20th-century revival of Japanese woodblock printing. In 1956 Hasui was named a Living National Treasure in Japan. Woodblock prints balance flat colour, fine line and generous empty space. The original image dates from 1939.

Styling this Kawase Hasui print

With its blue and purple palette and calming atmosphere, this Kawase Hasui print brings instant personality to a wall. Choose 24×36″ to make “Nakhwa Rock Puyo September” the focal point above a console, or 11×14″ to 16×20″ for a bedside or hallway wall. Finish “Nakhwa Rock Puyo September” with a natural wood frame with a cream mat: its blue and purple palette pairs naturally with white walls, navy or denim textiles and pale oak.
