There is a particular quality of silence found within the layered depths of dark pigments. This print captures the 1962 composition where a slender band of oxidized red floats above two massive, velvety black rectangular forms. Set against a deep plum background, the soft, feathered edges of the shapes create a vibrating energy that is characteristic of the artist’s mature color field style.
